We are looking for a skilled postdoctoral Research Associate to work on an innovative research project that has been funded through an Aston Institute of Membrane Excellence (AIME) grant. This multidisciplinary, intersectoral project looks to generate fluorescently tagged, and other modified polymers for the extraction and purification of membrane proteins. The work is a collaboration between academics in the Colleges of Health and Life Sciences, and Engineering and Physical Sciences, and an interdisciplinary mindset is essential. The project will involve polymer synthesis, chemical modification, testing for extraction and purification of membrane proteins, investigation of the molecular mechanism by which this works, and use in a variety of downstream applications.
The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in the synthesis and use of polymers designed for membrane protein extraction and/or cell membrane protein biochemistry. An ability to learn new techniques quickly is highly desirable and an enthusiasm to learn across disciplines is essential. Full training will be given as needed. Experience of driving research projects on a day-to-day basis is required.
Candidates who have recently submitted their PhD and are awaiting award will be considered.
The post is available for a fixed term of 3 years, with an ideal start date in January 2025.
