We are seeking to appoint a skilled and motivated researcher to join our team. This post-doctoral research post offers an exciting opportunity for a talented cell and molecular biologist to gain experience in research in vascular biology with a focus on arterial medial calcification. This project, which is funded by the Humane Research Trust, aims to completely humanise research into this widespread, untreatable condition. It will use human vascular smooth muscle cells and arterial rings along with a range of experimental approaches to develop and validate novel in vitro and ex vivo approaches that model arterial medial calcification without using any animal products. This work will represent an important step forward in the ongoing drive to reduce animal use in scientific research.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Cell Biology or a related discipline and have a track-record of success, as indicated by first-author publications in well-regarded journals and presentations at scientific conferences. They must possess excellent organisation skills, be highly motivated and be capable of interacting as part of a team. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the experimental work associated with the project as well as for producing deliverables in terms of conference presentations, preparation of manuscripts for publication, and public engagement activities. The post is funded for 24 months and is full time. The successful applicant will work with Dr Isabel Orriss and Professor Caroline Wheeler-Jones.
We offer a generous reward package and benefits including:
Interviews will be held on either the 11th or 12th of November 2024.
Potential applicants wishing to discuss this position informally are encouraged to contact Dr Isabel Orriss by email in the first instance (iorriss@rvc.ac.uk).

The RVC values Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and therefore welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities. Balancing both the needs of the business with those of our staff, we will consider applications to work on a flexible basis
