About the Role
We wish to appoint a Genomics technician to join the School of Biological & Behavioural Sciences (SBBS), a large, dynamic and expanding School within the Faculty of Science and Engineering with approximately 1800 students and over 100 academic staff members, who carry out excellent education, research and public engagement activities, with support from 26 administrative staff and more than 30 technical staff.
The post is part of the Technical Services career family at Queen Mary University of London, which supports functions across multiple sites and provides the infrastructure and support for all our research, teaching and learning activities.
The purpose of this role is to run our Genomics Facility and provide technical expertise and hands-on support to our researchers in SBBS. Our facility houses among others a PromethION, MiniIONs, an Agilent Seahorse XFe24 Analyzer and a Saphyr optical mapping system.
About You
You will have considerable understanding and technical experience of working in a research laboratory environment supporting the research process/researchers. You will have extensive experience in molecular biology laboratory techniques, e.g. isolation, handling, and quality-control of DNA and RNA, running and optimising PCR, q-PCR, and sequence library preparations. Experience in Nanopore PromethION or Saphyr platforms are desirable.
Furthermore, you will have a good understanding of Health & Safety regulations and rules to ensure compliance and guide users in the laboratories.
Due to the nature of work involved, the operational core requirements of this role can only be met effectively when working on campus. This role is therefore exempt from a regular pattern of Hybrid working. Remote working may be considered where the task undertaken permits and where there is sufficient cover on campus to fulfil service needs.
