An opportunity has arisen for an individual to take a leading role in the conduct and management of breast imaging research in Dundee. The work involves managing the recruitment and participation of patients in studies involving advanced medical imaging examinations. Our studies aim to advance understanding of breast cancer biology and the sciences of imaging and related informatics. As a team, we are working towards improving the detection, diagnosis, treatment and quality of care in breast cancer.

Based in Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, the post holder will join a small existing, experienced team but have overall responsibility for day-to-day trial management and data management activities. You will work closely with the investigators to ensure the implementation of all aspects of the studies, including research governance, ethical and regulatory approvals, interaction with clinical colleagues and collaborating sites, developing and maintaining trial databases, documentation and reporting. Travel to London and elsewhere in Europe may occasionally be necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Working with Dr Savaridas and academic and clinical-academic colleagues, the post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating research activities on behalf of the Principal Investigator and will be the primary contact for study collaborators, clinicians, research nurses, funders and study participants. Studies must be run to the expected UK regulatory standards and guidelines and in line with relevant TASC policies and procedures.
  • Work with the PI, CI, co-ordinating centre and other sites to introduce and maintain common working practices and SOPs and to identify training requirements of local and participating site trial personnel. This includes contributing to protocol development, obtaining ethical and regulatory approval and dealing with governance issues.
  • Ensure accurate collection and recording of data and maintenance of study documentation across local and national study teams.
  • Be responsible, in consultation with the investigators, for the design, piloting, implementation and maintenance of complex relational research databases, to the highest standards of information and research governance.
  • Produce sophisticated data queries and reports? Line-manage and provide training for data administration and trial co-ordination staff, with reference to the investigators when required.
  • Contribute to the co-ordination of staff recruitment processes, including the instigation and monitoring of NHS Tayside honorary contracts as applicable.
  • Undertake other appropriate tasks in response to reasonable management requests.
