About the Role

The Department of English, within the School of the Arts is looking to expand by appointing a Lecturer in English.

Duties under Teaching and Scholarship

Duties will include convening and teaching undergraduate modules, contributing to MA provision as appropriate, and undertaking administrative roles as required within the Department. We are looking for someone with expertise in Victorian Literature. The role will likely involve contributing to our survey module ESH279: Victorian Fictions, convening ESH6083: Reading Late Victorian Literature, and/or convening the MA level ESH7030: Aestheticism and Fin de Siècle Literature. The appointee may also be asked to contribute to additional cross-period survey modules, including ESH126: London Global and/or ESH295: London: Walking the City.

This is a fixed-term role available as a Leverhulme-funded replacement post until 31 August 2026.

About You

You will hold a PhD in English or have an equivalent professional qualification, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, good organisational and communicative skills are also essential.

The post is full-time and fixed-term (12 months) with an expected start date of 1 September 2025. The salary will be Grade 5, £51,040 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
