About the role
The Department of War Studies seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Strategic Studies to contribute to the Department's teaching and research.
The successful candidate will have a track record of high-quality publications in the field of Strategic Studies. The successful candidate will also be responsible for delivering high-quality, innovative undergraduate and post-graduate teaching. This will involve teaching on both compulsory and optional War Studies modules at BA and MA levels. They will work with students from a wide range of backgrounds and will be responsible for contributing to student success.
The successful candidate will also play a role in the institutional and intellectual life of the Department and undertake Departmental, School, Faculty and University administrative duties as required.
The War Studies is large and diverse faculty, with expertise in areas including technology, gender, intelligence, arms control, diplomacy, national security, military operations and strategy. We welcome applications from candidates whose research contributes to and expands our coverage in Strategic Studies, including various approaches to the study of strategic thought, military operations and doctrine. We are particularly interested in applications from candidates whose research and publications demonstrates a strong conceptual and methodological grounding in the field of Strategic Studies and Contemporary Warfare.
Beyond teaching and administrative duties, the successful candidate, upon completion of their probation, will be expected to supervise PhD students. They will also be expected to undertake high-quality research in their subject area, including publishing in recognised journals and with leading academic presses.
We offer research mentorship in support of these activities. The role-holder will further maintain research activities and connections through a portfolio of individual and/or joint research projects and will work to secure external research funding.
