Lecturer in Careers Guidance, Part time, Permanent

The School of Applied Sciences at Edinburgh Napier University is recognised for the quality of its educational provision, the employability of its graduates, its international reputation and industry partnerships in specific research areas. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Teacher Education and Careers Guidance Subject Group as a Lecturer in Career Guidance and Development. This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) permanent position within a growing and highly respected academic area that plays a key role in supporting the development of career guidance professionals across Scotland and beyond.

Our Career Guidance portfolio has experienced significant growth following the successful redesign of programmes into a flexible modular structure that better meets the needs of students and employers. Demand for our provision continues to increase, with substantial growth in student numbers and employer engagement activities.

As a result, we are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic academic or practitioner who can help sustain programme quality, support ongoing innovation and contribute to the continued success and long-term sustainability of this important area of provision.

The Role:

Based within our School of Applied Sciences, you will contribute to the delivery, development and enhancement of our Career Guidance portfolio, including professionally accredited postgraduate programmes and employer-funded CPD provision. Working within a small specialist academic team, you will support teaching, assessment, dissertation supervision, personal tutoring and curriculum development, while contributing to quality assurance, professional accreditation activities and employer engagement. 

The role offers an excellent opportunity to influence the future direction of Career Guidance education and to work closely with key sector partners, including employers and professional bodies.

What we will need from you: 

• An experienced trainer/ educator with a Master's degree or above in any discipline, but preferably in Career Guidance, Education, Social Sciences or a related discipline, alongside a commitment to ongoing professional development and scholarly or professional practice.
• Hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Career Guidance and Development (with the Qualification in Career Development) or the equivalent Career Development Institute approved qualification.
• Experience of working as a Career Practitioner within a higher education, further education, or school environment, alongside experience of teaching, training, or facilitating learning in higher education, professional education, or workplace settings.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of career development, employability, and guidance practice.

We are looking for someone:

• - who can build productive relationships with employers, professional bodies and external partners, while bringing excellent communication, organisational and collaborative skills.
• - Be passionate about delivering an outstanding student experience and supporting learners from diverse backgrounds to succeed.
• - Experience within career guidance, career development or employability, together with knowledge of curriculum development, quality assurance, programme administration or dissertation supervision, would be advantageous.
• - Fellowship of Advance HE, or a willingness to work towards an appropriate teaching qualification, is also desirable.
