Birmingham City University's Estates & Facilities department is looking for an experienced and qualified Space Officer. Reporting to the Space Manager, the role involves supporting space planning, maintaining the space management database, data reporting, and assisting with submissions. The post holder will survey estate space, ensure space usage is compliant, and produce AutoCAD/Revit plans for office reconfigurations and small projects. They will also work closely with the Projects team to update space records and respond to customer queries, assisting with standard space documents as needed.

The role involves regular interaction with staff, students, consultants, suppliers, and contractors. The successful candidate will have a degree, relevant experience in space management, and strong communication and IT skills.

Essential Requirements

  • Education to degree level
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills
  • Previous experience in a similar and relevant role
  • Experience of working in a complex organisation, with multiple internal and external stakeholders, and able to influence clients
  • Focused customer-service attitude, able to develop sound and innovative solutions, providing effective feedback to customers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex information to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience of gathering and interpreting complex quantitative and qualitative data, and presenting this in an appropriate format for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent IT skills including MS Office and Power BI etc to prepare and present data and reports. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined team, relating to wider departmental aims and objectives
  • Have experience of space planning within the built environment.
  • Space auditing and surveying skills.
  • Support developed processes and procedures.
  • Proficient in the use Auto desk Revit.
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety legislation.
  • Basic knowledge of Building Information Modelling.
  • Have experience of specialist space planning software, advanced use of databases and spreadsheets.
  • Able to travel between campuses.

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
