Project details
Globally, we are facing a huge explosion in data creation volume. With technological advancements like IoT and Artificial Intelligence, organisations are gathering vast swathes of data but in many cases, are failing to use this data effectively. ‘Bad’ data carries significant costs for organisations and the wider economy, as well as having a negative environmental impact. This PhD will explore the underlying reasons why organisations are increasingly failing to transform vast amounts of data into meaningful information and knowledge. It will focus on the interplay between corporate memory, knowledge systems, organisational culture, and data management practices to uncover barriers and enablers of effective data utilisation, for the benefit of organisations and society.
We are seeking motivated individuals who are passionate about the relationship between technology, data, and sustainability. The successful candidate will be a part of Loughborough University’s pioneering digital decarbonisation design group, a community of doctoral researchers investigating ecosystem solutions to decarbonise the digital world. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds including business and management, computer science, information management and beyond.
