Are you passionate about improving the university experience, and outcomes, for disabled students at Birkbeck, University of London? Are you a proactive team-player who can help students seek out the right support, and get the most from their time at Birkbeck? We are looking for a Disability Advisor to join us on a full-time, permanent contract.

As Disability Advisor, working within our Wellbeing Services, you will manage a student caseload and work collaboratively with internal and external professionals to develop, and deliver, a range of high-quality interventions and services to those with long-term physical health conditions and disabilities, mobility and sensory disabilities, and specific learning differences.

As Disability Advisor duties your will include:

  • Managing a caseload of students with complex and comorbid conditions.
  • Identifying individualised support packages and facilitating the provision of reasonable adjustments and support.
  • Actively engaging with the Wellness and Support policy procedures.
  • Providing training and guidance to academic and professional service staff and contributing to the development and delivery of workshops, activities, and resources.
  • Leading on specific projects, and maintaining accurate student records as well as maintaining and improving administrative processes.

We're looking for a Disability Advisor who:

  • Has an understanding of the UK Higher Education system and the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Has experience of managing a large caseload, ideally within a relevant professional role in higher education.
  • Has an understanding of equality, diversity, inclusion and cultural competence, as well as a knowledge of UK disability regulation and legislation.
  • Experience and ability to support students with complex personal circumstances, mental health, and/or interpersonal difficulties.
  • Experience of identifying reasonable adjustments and knowledge of assistive technology.

The purpose of the role is to facilitate equal opportunities, student engagement and full participation in academic studies - and the university experience - to enable students to fulfil their potential, and ensure Birkbeck meets legislative and regulatory obligations.

If you have experience as an Assistant Disability Advisor, Wellbeing Administrator, Needs Assessor, Specialist Dyslexia or SpLD tutor, Mental Health Advisor, Occupational Health Specialist or Education, Health and Care Needs Assessor, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

Remuneration

£38,443 to £43,636 per annum, Grade 6 of the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated London Weighting Allowance.

Terms and Conditions

Permanent, Full-time contract (35 hours a week). Part-time considered. Hybrid role - working in-person three days a week (including Wednesdays). Occasional weekend and evening working. Please submit an application form for consideration.
