The role

The Smart Internet Lab is looking for three highly motivated, enthusiastic researchers at different career stages, with a passion for telecommunication networks and their evolution towards intelligent and highly distributed systems with the use of advanced AI/ML techniques. Research topics include future mobile networks and 6G, AI/ML for network intelligence, edge intelligence, distributed AI systems, end-to-end AI for network optimisation, native AI networking, deployment of AI toolkits in laboratory testbed infrastructures, and large-scale experimentation in heterogeneous environments.

What will you be doing?

The successful candidate will carry out research for existing projects including REASON (https://reason-open-networks.ac.uk), TITAN (https://www.titancambridge.com) and JOINER (https://joiner.org.uk). TITAN is an EPSRC Hub (network of networks), aiming to establish an open and productive platform for research collaboration and engagement across a large number of academic and industrial partners. JOINER is a national experimentation platform for future connectivity and with cutting edge capabilities. It connects eleven research labs/centres of excellence/universities and is a platform enabling next generation network research to become reality.

You should apply if

You have experience and proven track record of 

  • Relevant scientific publications or relevant experience
  • Knowledge and experience in AI/ML principles, workflows, and implementation
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and architectures
  • PhD or equivalent R&D experience in computer science, networks or communications, and/or experience with at least one of the following areas:
    • Applied AI/ML in networking
    • AI for network services and optimisation
    • Embedded intelligence in the networks through E2E AI
    • AI/ML/container orchestration and MLOps platforms
