About the role
An important and varied position, the Engagement Coordinator (Capacity Building) role involves supporting university staff and students to engage public audiences with their research. As part of Imperial's central Public and Community Engagement team, you will be responsible for developing and delivering a diverse programme of training and capacity building initiatives, helping staff and students to develop key skills and explore engagement practice. Join us at this exciting time as we establish our new Centre for Societal Engagement at Imperial.
What you would be doing
As our Engagement Coordinator (Capacity Building), you will:
- Deliver a variety of public engagement training programmes for staff and students.
- Provide on-going advice and guidance on how to develop, deliver and evaluate engagement activities.
- Develop resources, such as online toolkits and case studies, to support staff and students to develop their engagement practice.
- Contribute to the monitoring and analysis of our capacity building initiatives, to help inform changes and improvements.
- Support the coordination of various groups and networks across the university, helping and supporting colleagues from a range of disciplines.
What we are looking for
- An experienced public engagement professional, who has developed and delivered public engagement activities for a range of different audiences.
- A skilled facilitator, with experience of delivering face-to-face training or briefings to staff, volunteers and/or students.
- A confident communicator, with consistent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Someone with excellent interpersonal skills, who is a team player and keen to support others to learn and embed engagement practice into their research.
- A reflective and creative mindset, with a passion for, and commitment to, public engagement.

This is an open-ended full-time post (35 hours per week).
The Public and Community Engagement team sit within the Societal Engagement Division of Imperial and support staff and students across the university to engage the public with their work and research. We deliver events, festivals, school holiday programmes and activities for adults, young people, community groups, families and more. To support our colleagues to develop engagement skills, we run training, seed funds, awards and networks. Our team is friendly, creative and passionate, and we value diversity of voices and ideas in all areas of our work.
