About The Role
We announce a permanent position of Teaching Fellow in Marine Biology at the Department of Biosciences at Swansea University. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a vibrant and growing Department and a highly successful team of teaching and research facing academics.
At Biosciences we offer 3 undergraduate degree schemes accredited by the Royal Society of Biology, in marine biology, zoology and biology, and popular taught and research Masters covering a wide range of topics, including the world first MSc in Marine Restoration and Conservation. Our department is immersed in the beautiful Singleton Park, facing the beach, and located close to stunning natural areas, including the Gower Peninsula, the Brecon Beacons National Park, and Pembrokeshire, excellent for teaching our field courses. We have great modern facilities, including our new 18m catamaran research and teaching vessel and the UK-leading Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Research (CSAR), with 100% of our Research Environment judged as world or internationally leading by the latest REF evaluation.
In this post, you will be contributing to our BSc and MSc teaching in Marine Biology, including marine survey techniques and design, marine conservation in temperate and tropical environments, species recovery plans, domestic and overseas field courses, and boat-based teaching. Our teaching is student-centred and we aim to form well-rounded marine biologists, combining ecological/natural history, quantitative, and applied expertise, to maximise their employability. At Biosciences we are very collegiate, and you will be mentored by experienced academics and become fully integrated into our Department.
The post requires a PhD in Biosciences (or be near completion) and related fields, capacity for high-quality delivery of teaching and student learning, a commitment to enhancing the overall student experience, and relevant research experience. The role is available from 1st September 2025.
