Background
The Mathematics Department includes 19 permanent staff undertaking internationally excellent research in Representation Theory, Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Physics. Members regularly attract research funding from diverse sources including EPSRC, STFC, and EU funding. The Department runs a Foundation Year, five BSc/MSci undergraduate programmes as well as two MSc programmes in Mathematics and Mathematics with associated disciplines (e.g., Data Science, Finance). We seek an academic who will actively engage with the Foundation Programme and contribute to educational innovation in the Department.
Responsibilities
As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Mathematics, your role will be to demonstrate sustained commitment to excellence in Education through innovative planning, development and delivery of teaching across our programmes and pastoral and academic support of our students. You will also be expected to play an active role in administration and academic management of the Department, including leadership of our Foundation Programme. A successful candidate should be open to developing interdisciplinary connections capitalising on the City St George’s merger.
Person Specification
The successful applicant will have a PhD in Mathematics or related discipline and experience commensurate with raising the profile of the Department in education and student experience. They will demonstrate experience in leading large modules, innovation in teaching mathematics and ability to contribute to a range of Departmental activities (e.g., employability, marketing, outreach, etc.). We would like a colleague who demonstrates understanding of the positive, proactive research and teaching environment and aims to enhance the collegiate culture of our Department.
