St Hilda’s College invites applications for the fixed-term post of Stipendiary Lecturer in Engineering Science for one year (with possibility of renewal) from 1 October 2025. No salaried University post is associated with this Fellowship.
Applicants will be expected to have been successfully examined for a doctorate, and should have substantial and relevant teaching experience. The post-holder will be expected to provide a combined total of four hours of teaching in Engineering Science per week during term, averaged over three eight-week terms. Specific needs include tutorial coverage of first- and second-year Structures, Mechanics, Materials and Dynamics, setting and marking of collections (college examinations) and delivery of revision classes. The appointee will also share the responsibility, with Engineering Science Fellows Prof. David Howey and Dr Daniel Bulte, for Engineering Science within the College, including (but not limited to) pastoral care, organization of subject-based events such as fourth year project presentations, beginning and end of term meetings, and admissions.
The salary for the post is £11,046 (point 1) to £11,661 (point 3) per annum (current rates) according to experience and qualifications, and membership of the USS pension scheme is offered. There is also a research allowance (payable against receipts) of £315 per annum. The Lecturer will be entitled to five meals per week (either lunch or dinner) free of charge during weeks 0 to 9 of each term, with additional out-of-term entitlements, for example during the admissions period. The Lecturer will have the use of a shared teaching room in College. They will be a member of the Senior Common Room at St Hilda’s College.
