Lady Margaret Hall (LMH) invites applications for a 6-hour Stipendiary Lectureship in Biology, tenable from 1 September 2025 for one academic year in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic academic community and will be responsible for teaching core areas of the Biological Sciences degree to undergraduates. Particular priority will be given to candidates with a strong background in Quantitative Methods, Evolutionary Biology, and the Biology of Organisms. The post includes tutorial teaching (in person at LMH), setting and marking collections, reporting on students’ progress, participating in undergraduate admissions, and contributing to outreach and access work.
The Lecturer will work under the direction of Professor Adrian Thomas and the Senior Tutor. There is an average annual intake of six undergraduates reading Biology at LMH. The postholder may also serve as a Personal Tutor and be invited to act as Graduate Adviser.
The salary will be on the Senior Tutors’ scale for Stipendiary Lecturers at £17,023 – £18,308 per annum (at 2024/25 rates). The post carries additional benefits including lunch during term, one formal dinner per week, a research allowance of £366 p.a., membership of the Senior Common Room, and access to a range of family-friendly policies and staff benefits.
Applicants should have, or be close to completing, a doctorate in Biology or a closely related field. Some experience of tutorial teaching is desirable. They should have excellent communication skills, a strong academic record, and a commitment to high-quality undergraduate teaching and the wider life of the College.
Applications must be submitted via the ‘Apply’ button above on the LMH vacancies webpage no later than 12 noon (UK time) on Monday 2 June 2025. Applicants should upload a single PDF including a cover letter and CV.
Interviews are expected to be held at LMH in the week beginning Monday 9 June 2025.
