Location: Birmingham
Salary: £56,921 to £66,537 per annum. Grade 10
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 7th May 2025

Aston Business School is a Triple Accredited institution (EQUIS, AACSB, AMBA) and among the UK’s leading universities for academic research, teaching excellence, and business engagement. It is one of only three UK institutions awarded the Small Business Charter Gold Award.

The Accounting and Finance Department consists of nearly 50 staff members specialising in accounting, finance, and related disciplines. It delivers a successful undergraduate programme and two postgraduate programmes, while also supporting a range of business programmes in Birmingham, London, and internationally.

As part of our strategic growth, we are seeking an inspirational and motivated academic to contribute to our teaching, research, PhD/DBA supervision, and departmental citizenship.

Our department is known for its rigorous and relevant teaching and research culture. Core research themes include:

  • Accounting governance and regulation
  • Management accounting and decision-making
  • Accountability
  • Accounting education
  • Taxation

We host two research units focused on public sector and not-for-profit governance and sustainability accounting, alongside a Research Centre in Personal Financial Wellbeing and a Fraud Research Group.

We welcome candidates with applied/empirical research skills, a collaborative mindset, and a proactive, hands-on attitude. The ideal candidate will help grow our research output, attract external funding, and generate meaningful impact through external engagement.

We are especially interested in strengthening our existing research areas and welcome applicants able to contribute to these themes. Senior Lecturer applicants will be expected to play a leadership role in one or more of these initiatives.

Applicants should have a relevant first degree, Master’s, and either a PhD, professional qualifications, or teaching experience in a relevant field. Industry experience in accounting is also desirable.

This is a great opportunity for an ambitious, team-oriented academic to take a leading role in a growing, high-performing department.

Aston University is committed to equality and diversity and actively works to eliminate discrimination on the basis of race, disability, gender, and other characteristics. For full details, see our Equality and Diversity Policy Statement.

We are proud holders of a Gold Athena SWAN Award, reflecting our commitment to gender equality and inclusive practices. Our working environment is collaborative, supportive, and inclusive.

Aston Business School is based in central Birmingham, offering excellent transport links — including a 1.2-hour train journey to London. We also have a presence in London and partner locations around the world.

The role’s salary and description meet the criteria for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa scheme. See more: UK Government Skilled Worker visa
