Postdoctoral Research Associate in Bioinformatics - Grade 7

University of Liverpool - Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (HLS) - Institute of Infection, Vet & Ecological Sciences - Department of Infection Biology & Microbiomes

Location: Liverpool
Salary: £39,355 to £42,882 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience)
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 7th May 2025
Closes: 21st May 2025
Job Ref: 093654

We are seeking to appoint a Post-doctoral Research Associate to join our team for a BBSRC funded project investigating the impact of the gut-liver axis on liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica) infections in sheep. The project aims to elucidate host-parasite interactions along the gut-liver axis in sheep and determine whether gut bacteria and liver health status contribute to disease progression and animal tolerance to liver fluke infection.

A range of omics tools are to be used to assess the impact on the sheep host. The PDRA will be focussed on the bioinformatic analyses of these ‘omics’ datasets, including microbiome data, transcriptome and small RNA sequencing datasets and proteomic/metabolomic datasets. The successful applicant will be joining the Veterinary Parasitology group in IIVES as a member of the research group led by project investigator, Dr Krystyna Cwiklinski, and have the opportunity to work with colleagues at the Centre for Genomic Research (led by project partners Professor Al Darby and Professor Steve Paterson).

You should hold a PhD in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics or relevant Biological or Life Sciences subject area and have experience in bioinformatic analyses. Prior experience analysing and interpreting microbiome data and/or multi-omic datasets would be advantageous.

Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon submitting written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.

Although the university has a hybrid working system, the expectation is that the applicant appointed to this role will work more than 50% on campus.

The post is available on a fixed term basis until 29th February 2028.
