THE ROLE
The Outdoor Adventure programmes at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David are continuing to grow and we are excited to recruit a new member of technical staff to our team.
Outdoor education has been running here for over 60 years and our expanding portfolio now includes undergraduate adventure education, adventure filmmaking and outdoor learning along with post graduate outdoor education. Our outdoor centre in Carmarthen has excellent access to the Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire National Parks, the Gower and mid Wales. Our resource base is extensive, and this allows us to offer a varied and flexible programme of activities that makes the most of our location.
We are looking to appoint a technician to support the delivery and further development of our extensive practical programme. This role will involve planning and leading activity sessions and assisting the senior technician with the management and maintenance of the equipment and vehicles. The successful candidate would need to be a graduate and able to support academic staff in delivering a wide range of adventurous activities with a focus on developing academic understanding of adventure whilst facilitating students in their technical skill development. We also have a strong extra-curricular programme that provides opportunities for further technical skill development and expedition experiences.
We are a small team that work effectively together to support our students. This requires a flexible approach to working and the ability to meet the demands of students operating at a very broad range of competences. Our programmes are delivered predominantly during weekdays and include several residential activities and expeditions throughout the UK and occasionally abroad.
The successful candidate will hold a range of governing body awards, with a higher award in paddle sport, mountaineering, caving or mountain biking. Additionally, we would expect the right person to be enthusiastic about personal professional development both within their current technical field but also within some of the other activities that we offer. The role will involve driving a minibus to transport students.
A generous annual leave entitlement of 28 days’ annual leave per year, plus 8 bank holidays and 4 University closure days with a contributory pension scheme.
