The Materials Innovation Factory (MIF) is a flagship strategic research facility built on world-class knowledge leadership in Materials Chemistry, Lab Automation and Digital Chemistry, with the vision to transform how Chemistry is done and accelerate material discovery.
We are looking to recruit a Research Technical Professional (RTP) specialising in Advanced Diffraction Methods to lead the establishment, operation and development of a suite of diffraction instruments that will complete automated materials discovery workflows.
You will require expertise in the structural characterisation of new extended inorganic and organic materials with experience of structure solution through single crystal and/or powder diffraction methods (X-ray, electron and/or neutron), and transmission electron microscope-based techniques (such as HRTEM, HAADF, SAED, CBED, PED/CRED).
You will be responsible for the delivery of efficient and effective technical research support for this equipment portfolio, maximising capability and availability of the equipment set to support academic and industry researchers. You will provide technical leadership for the area within collaborative and commercial projects, building technical professional networks within and beyond the University of Liverpool. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an evidenced ability to work successfully within collaborative research teams. Experience of working within a customer facing technical role would be advantageous.
As an RTP, you will be part of the University of Liverpool RTP Career Pathway, created for the purpose of recruiting, retaining and recognising highly skilled, specialist staff that are essential to research activity. You will be part of our RTP community of staff, with up to 10 days per year to commit to personal professional and technical development related to the role.
You will have a PhD in Chemistry, Physics or Materials Science, (or equivalent) gained via appropriate work experience and technical training
