IT Services has a key role to play in maintaining the IT infrastructure and business systems of the University – supporting 54 academic departments, based in 300 buildings across a number of national and international sites.
Sitting within IT Services, the Student Systems and Services Team is responsible for student data from the point of application through to graduation. The main student records system (Banner) stores and processes this data – and is integrated with a number of satellite systems which are also supported by the team.
Reporting to the Student Systems and Services Manager, you will work to agreed performance standards, optimising processes and working practices, delivering within agreed response times, and ensuring documentation and records relating to activities are effectively maintained.
As the main database technology within the University’s primary business systems, experience in working with Oracle is important. The administrative front-end is delivered through Java, with PL/SQL being used for the processing of the data. Experience of Java and PL/SQL is therefore also an important requirement of this role – with experience of working with both on-premises and cloud-based environments highly desirable.
Related duties will include the development of web-based front ends using industry standard technologies (HTML5, Javascript/Ajax, Bootstrap) and back-end database systems and services (Oracle SQL, PL/SQL) – with activity covering the entire software development lifecycle, working from initial requirements gathering and analysis, through design, development, testing and implementation.
The role will also include customer-facing responsibilities and support responsibilities. You will therefore need to have excellent interpersonal skills, together with the ability to convert technical procedures into easily understandable concepts to be conveyed to the customer. You will be technologically agnostic, articulate, persuasive, enthusiastic and capable of analysing and documenting complex systems.
You should have a Degree (or equivalent qualification(s) or relevant professional experience).
This post is full time and fixed term for 6 months.
