Background

To teach and advise undergraduate and postgraduate students within own subject area and within established teaching programmes, managed and supervised by members of staff with ultimate responsibility for the design, delivery and assessment of the teaching programmes.

We are seeking enthusiastic and collaborative colleagues who would like to develop their careers with us as educators and innovators in higher education. You will contribute to the delivery of our suite of undergraduate and post graduation programmes in the school, enabling you to develop a range of skills as an inclusive educator who can support and ultimately lead education programmes.

Experience in developing and delivering curriculum across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is desirable but not required. Some discipline-specific knowledge in an area aligned with our undergraduate and postgraduate provision is also desirable.

We support a research culture where discovery and translation are intertwined. We offer state-of-the-art facilities for studying the human mind and behaviour at many levels, and bring together like-minded colleagues via our centres and institutes to form collaborative teams.

Role Summary

  • Teaching within an established teaching programme (under the supervision from an academic member of staff).
  • Contribute to enhancement of the student experience and employability.
  • Contribute to content development and programme delivery across programmes.

Main Duties

  • Teach courses at a range of levels within specified subject areas to undergraduates and postgraduates, predominantly through allocated lectures and seminars and tutorial support, so that the School’s teaching objectives are met.
  • Plan and prepare own teaching, including guidance notes and explanatory material in accordance with the established objectives of the teaching programme.
  • Devise and supervise projects, student dissertations and practical work.
  • Develop an approach to planning and reviewing own teaching.
  • Undertake full range of responsibilities in relation to supervision, marking and examining. (Summative assessment, including assessed work contributing to the final award – as a mark or as a credit – such as unseen examinations, essays, dissertations or presentations, is subject to validation by the academic supervisor.)

Person Specification

  • Higher degree relevant to research or teaching area or equivalent qualifications
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to design and deliver module materials successfully
  • Ability to assess and organise resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
