About this role

This is a pivotal role for the operations of a busy and collaborative department. Leading a team of Senior Research Group Administrators, the postholder will pro-actively support academic staff with the management of all of their research and finance administration, troubleshooting issues as they arise.

What you will be doing

You will provide first-class support to the academic community within the Department for all their research and finance queries, ensuring funds are spent within guidelines, and income and expenditure is closely monitored across a wide ranging portfolio.

Being the primary research and finance operations contact point for the Department with the Faculty, you will keep abreast of changes to University policies and procedures, continuously improving Department processes to streamline work and ensure accuracy.

You will provide support to the Research Strategy Group on the current and future research portfolio and other strategic aspects of departmental administration, including assisting the Director of Operations in the annual budgeting round and end of financial year process.

As a manager to a large team of Senior Research Group Administrators, you will provide excellent leadership to the team, supporting their development and troubleshooting issues.

What we are looking for

Someone who thrives of working in a fast-paced environment, you will have experience managing and developing strong teams and enjoy being hand on.

Having a background in financial management across a varied research portfolio, you will be able to use your knowledge and attention to detail to maximise income and spend, and advise on funding body policies.

As someone who enjoys working in diverse teams and troubleshooting, you will be a confident communicator, able to use the latest Microsoft programmes to develop new and streamlined processes, such as Power Automate and SharePoint.

Joining a close knit and friendly team, you will have a customer focused attitude, and  be someone who wants to support the academic and professional community across the Department to succeed.
