An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Developmental Psychology to join the Department of Psychological Sciences and Health at the University of Strathclyde. You will make a significant contribution to the Department through research, teaching, and citizenship.
We are an interdisciplinary Department consisting of four interlinked core subject areas (Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Physical Activity for Health, and Counselling). Most research in the Department is focused on improving health. Our research addresses many current societal challenges by translating theory and using technology to help create innovative, positive health impacts in the real world. The Department provides a vibrant, friendly and inclusive environment for outstanding research and teaching that brings together internationally-recognised academic staff from varied disciplinary backgrounds. We are well connected to government, health services, and the charity sector, and have an outstanding record of research impact. The Department was part of the University’s Allied Health submission in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (the UK's system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions). This submission was ranked joint first in the UK for both research impact and research environment, and 11th in research power.
We use a diverse range of methods across a variety of interests, from ageing and mental health, communication and speech disorders, to health behaviour change, intervention development, and evaluation. Our team of health, clinical, social, and cognitive psychologists work together to develop, test, and apply psychological theory to help improve health and wellbeing throughout people’s lives. For example, we research areas such as mental health, cognitive ageing and dementia, vaccination behaviour, and sleep across a range of populations. We have particular strengths in relation to experimental and applied cognition, ageing, mental health and brain health, health behaviour change, speech disorders, physical activity, interventions, and sleep research.
We also host a strong KE agenda, which focuses on engagement with external partners, including government, third sector organizations, and industry. A range of innovative University-wide, multi-disciplinary research networks are also led by researchers within the Psychology group, including the Strathclyde Ageing Network, the Strathclyde Dementia Network, Health and Care Futures, and the Strathclyde Doctoral Training Centre in the Social Dimensions of Plastics: Communications, Behaviours and Social Change. We also have a taught portfolio of popular UG and PGT courses (BA Psychology, BSc Psychology & Counselling, BSc Sport and Physical Activity, MSc Clinical Health Psychology, MSc Psychology Research Methods, MSc Psychology with specialisms in Business and Health, MSc Counselling and Psychotherapy, and MSc Sport Data Analytics).
A PhD in Psychology or a relevant area is essential for the current position. Applications are sought from Developmental Psychology, and expertise in Adolescent Mental Health is highly desired. Significant experience of teaching and research within a higher education context and a body of published research in high-quality publications are required.
Initial interviews have been scheduled foe 07/07/2025.
