This post is part time (5 hours per week) and fixed term for up to 6 months from start date.
We have an opportunity for a Research Assistant to to support Dr Eleanor Kirk (PI) and Prof Ruth Dukes (Co-I) on an ESRC Impact Accelerator Award project, entitled: The Work Law Observatory: workers’ stories of law and action. The project is being conducted in partnership with a number of trade unions in the UK who want to better understand how the law shapes relations at work. The role involves supporting the planning, design, building, and promotion of an online Observatory, which will collect and catalogue examples of ‘landmark’ employment law cases. ‘Landmark’ is defined here from a social-political rather than purely ‘legal’ perspective. Like other ‘crowdsourced’ databases such as Strikemap, the Everyday Sexism Project, and ‘Topple the Racists!,’ the Observatory seeks to document and inspire action. The Observatory will be both an online repository and a meeting place, where workers, activists and scholars can share stories of law and action that inform decision-making, strategies and ultimately action to addresses inequalities and injustices at work.
