We are seeking an experienced research engineer in ultrasonic guided waves to join the CUE Robotics Team at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
FTE: 1 (35 hours/week)
Contract Type: Fixed Term (36 months)
We are seeking an experienced research engineer in ultrasonic guided waves to join the CUE Robotics Team at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a dynamic, fast-paced environment, working alongside experts in robotics and automation. The role offers exceptional access to world-class laboratory facilities and cutting-edge technologies, placing you at the forefront of innovative research and development.
This position will play a key role in a team developing novel inspection systems for the UK’s next-generation submarine fleet, with a particular focus on the inspection of pipework. We are looking for someone familiar with guided waves and their applications in NDT, including transduction and signal processing.
To be considered for this role, you will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and possess significant professional experience. You should have a proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects, with hands-on expertise in software design and architecture, system integration, project management, and technical documentation. The role involves regular travel to partner sites for meetings and demonstrations, so applicants must be willing and able to travel. A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would be advantageous because the position will involve frequent travelling to our industrial partner sites, some of them are located in areas not well served by public transport.
This is a full-time, fixed-term post for an initial period of three years, with the potential for extension subject to future funding. The role is based at the University’s city centre campus in Glasgow.
Please be aware that many roles, for example those working with industry partners may be subject to both security and export control restrictions. These restrictions mean that enhanced checks may be required, and factors including your nationality, any previous nationalities you have held, and your place of birth may limit the roles you can perform for the organisation.
Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Professor Gordon Dobie, (gordon.dobie@strath.ac.uk).
