Role Profile

The successful individual will be able to contribute to existing modules on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The new appointee will have scope to develop new modules on contemporary issues in theological and religious ethics. Along with capacity in Christian ethics and fundamental moral theory, an ability to teach and research on more than one religious tradition, or in areas of contemporary concern such as interreligious ethics and comparative perspectives, feminism and gender, or decolonialism would be welcome.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • A PhD in Theology or Religious Studies, specializing in Theological or Religious Ethics or a closely related field with a relevant focus for the teaching required in this role.
  • The successful candidate should have expertise in Christian Ethics and a capacity to engage in comparative religious ethics.
  • The successful candidate must have appropriate relevant experience in the field, with appropriate higher-level teaching experience.
  • The successful individual should be capable of working in a team and contributing to developing the teaching and research agenda within the School, as well as supporting the School’s research and engagement funding through grant applications.
  • The successful individual will have a sustained research profile and clear record of peer reviewed publications.
  • The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong organisational, administrative, communication and leadership skills and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Evidence of successful teamwork and a collegial approach.
  • Ability to contribute in areas such as interreligious ethics; feminism and gender; and decolonialism.
  • An ability to contribute in areas beyond Theological and Religious Ethics would be welcome.
  • Experience working with diverse cohorts of students, and virtual learning environments.
  • Experience in academic service roles.

Salary Scale:

Assistant Professor - €63,311 - €101,461

Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and in line with current Government pay policy.
