Job Description

We’re looking for a Technical Demonstrator to join our team and play a key role in supporting the provision and demonstration of specialist technical and practical equipment, predominately in Environmental and Analytical sciences, processes and techniques in support of academic and commercial programmes across the School Technical Services

About the Role

You’ll provide technical support to tutors and students during workshops, technical demonstrations, and learning sessions—both on campus and off-site. From helping develop the curriculum to supervising students in labs, you’ll bring scientific techniques to life in a safe, well-equipped environment.

Day-to-day, you’ll maintain and manage specialist equipment, coordinate bookings, and ensure materials are ready for teaching, research, and income-generating projects. You’ll also contribute to equipment upgrade proposals, manage orders and deliveries, and play a key role in health and safety compliance—conducting risk assessments and ensuring safe storage and disposal of materials.

About You

• Relevant degree in Environmental science or equivalent
• Experience of terrestrial / aquatic filed work and survey techniques
• Experience using analytical equipment including HPLC, GCMS, MP-AES / AAS/ICP-OES
• Significant practical experience in application of the relevant discipline
• Teaching or demonstration experience in higher education
• HPLC /GCMS method development
• Terrestrial / Aquatic species identification
• Geographical mapping skills (ArcGIS, QGIS, ESRI)

This is a full time, permanent role

Some evening and weekend working may be required for this role. The arrangement of working hours will be agreed in advance with the line manager.
