Senior Technician in Biological Sciences

Full time: 35 hours per week

As an engaged and enthusiastic member of the Health and Life Sciences Technical Support Team, the post holder will provide specialised technical support across the School/University with a special emphasis on Biological Sciences. This includes demonstrating concepts and techniques to support learning, teaching, research, and enterprise activities in the subject area.

The post holder will also introduce innovative techniques into research and academic delivery within the Biological Sciences subject areas.

The post holder will routinely address staff and student groups with information of a highly specialist nature. This involves detailed explanations of Biological Sciences concepts to embrace theoretical conclusions. This will involve leading timetabled practical sessions as well as supporting other access to specialist facilities.

The successful candidate should have the following:

• Educated to degree level (in a discipline relevant to the role) or with equivalent experience in a similar role demonstrated through relevant and practical work experience (essential).
• Extensive practical experience in Biological Sciences Experience of working in an academic environment.
• Experience of planning and organising the activities of self and/or others.
• Experience of working with relevant specialised processes, systems and procedures,
• Experience of working independently to mitigate unforeseen problems and circumstances. Experience of contributing to the development of current working methods.
• Demonstrable success in building good relationships with key internal and external parties Planning and carrying out demonstration sessions supported by documents and handout Practical experience of risk assessment and COSHH
