The international consortium HILIGHT (www.hilighthorizon.eu) and Dr Alessandro Esposito’s group (www.quantitative-biology.org) are recruiting a Research Fellow funded by the EU HORIZON scheme. HILIGHT is developing innovative laser and sensor technologies aimed at disrupting the rapid and early detection of cancer. This is an excellent opportunity to work and be trained within a highly interdisciplinary consortium and laboratory with an established track record across areas spanning engineering, mathematics, physics, biology and medical applications.
This is a 12-month appointment aimed at supporting the initial stages of the project. The Esposito laboratory at Brunel University of London will integrate new imaging technologies related to FLIM and TPM to disrupt digital histopathology applications.
Candidates should have experience working across disciplines. Proficiency in at least one of the following areas: programming (Matlab, Python or Labview), cell biochemistry or project management is essential. Previous experience with bioimaging, biological samples, and clinical imaging applications is desirable but not expected.
Preliminary inquiries welcomed (alessandro.esposito@brunel.ac.uk).
Good communication skills and demonstrable capabilities to work independently and as part of a team are required. The post holder may attend consortium meetings and travel abroad to coordinate efforts with European partners.
Applicants are expected to have a PhD in disciplines appropriate for the project (e.g., Physics, Biophysics, Biology, Engineering and related areas) or to have attained equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience in biophysics/bioengineering.
After 15 years in Cambridge, the Esposito Laboratory has recently relocated to Brunel University, an interdisciplinary campus in London close to Heathrow Airport. We provide high-end microscopy facilities, prototyping capabilities, and state-of-the-art core facilities. The post holder will have access to the HILIGHT international consortium and an extensive national and international collaborative network.
We offer a generous annual leave package plus discretionary University closure days, excellent training and development opportunities as well as a great occupational pension scheme and a range of health-related support. The University is committed to a hybrid working approach. We will offer a 12-month appointment with an opportunity to extend depending on funding.
Closing date: 1 June 2025
Interviews will take place on 12 June 2025 in person (remote options will be made available) or soon after.
