About the role:

Are you ready to shape the future of critical care research? As the Critical Care Research Manager, you will play a central role in supporting and expanding the research activities of Professor Anthony Gordon’s internationally recognised Precision Medicine in Sepsis group and the wider Division of Anaesthetics, Pain Medicine & Intensive Care. You will help drive impactful research across laboratory science, translational medicine, clinical trials, and health services.

What you would be doing:

  • You will manage and maintain an overview of the group’s research portfolio.
  • You will design, implement, and oversee efficient team workflows for research, working closely with Professor Gordon to ensure consistency and high-quality outcomes.
  • Your role will include creating and editing grant applications, research outputs, reports, and presentations, ensuring clarity and alignment with project goals.
  • You will coordinate and lead meetings with internal teams and external collaborators, including funding agencies and industry partners.
  • You will manage communications with key stakeholders, ensuring timely and high-quality document submissions.
  • You will analyse the funding landscape, report on research and funding strategy, and have oversight of the group’s £12m+ budget and grant portfolio.
  • You will provide expert advice and support to academic staff and collaborators, manage intellectual property matters, and support daily research operations.
  • You will attend management meetings, develop relationships across Imperial and the wider research community, and actively promote the group’s reputation.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience managing research projects or portfolios, ideally in a scientific or clinical research environment
  • Excellent scientific writing skills, including grant applications and research outputs
  • Strong organisational and project management abilities, including oversight of budgets and compliance
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with a range of stakeholders
  • Proactive, collaborative approach with impeccable work ethics and attention to detail
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex scientific concepts
  • Experience in grant writing or supporting research funding applications is desirable

Further Information

This is a part-time post (60–80% FTE, open to negotiation) for 2.5 years in the first instance. The role is based at St Mary’s and Hammersmith Campuses, with hybrid working options available. You will join the Division of Anaesthetics, Pain Medicine & Intensive Care, a vibrant research community led by Professor Anthony Gordon, Chair in Anaesthesia & Critical Care.
