About the role:
Are you interested in novel clinical research in the field of infectious disease? We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Technician with laboratory experience. The post will be working on the laboratory analyses of clinical samples from the CHANTS study (the first human challenge model for non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS)).
What you would be doing:
You will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team, working closely with Research Associates, Clinical Fellows, Research Nurses and other scientists to process and analyse samples from infected participants. Your main role will be performing assays to analyse the immune response stimulated by NTS infection in experimentally infected volunteers. You will use serological, cellular immunology and molecular techniques to identify the inflammatory and immune responses to infection that correlate with disease and protection, with supervision by others in the team and in the wider department. Key procedures will include bacterial and cell culture; ELISA; quantitative PCR and data analysis.
You will need to plan and carry out experiments to a high standard and keep accurate records. Additionally, you will be expected to present findings to colleagues and contribute to the writing of research reports and publications.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for a Research Technician who has experience working in a research laboratory and with clinical trial samples. The successful candidate will need to have sound knowledge of relevant laboratory techniques and Good Laboratory Practice, preferably with knowledge of Good Clinical Practice too. You will need to have a relevant degree and a good understanding of infection, immunology, and cell biology.
