THE PROJECT 

The University of Essex, in partnership with Royal Hospital Chelsea, offers an exciting opportunity to a graduate with the relevant skills and knowledge to use specialist research methodologies to assess and evaluate the impact of the Chelsea Pensioners Veterans Outreach initiative for older UK Armed Forces veterans, and to use this data driven insight to develop loneliness mitigation strategies and supply evidence to help the growth and diversification of income streams for Royal Hospital Chelsea.

This post is fixed term for 32 months and is based at Royal Hospital Chelsea’s offices in London.

DUTIES OF THE POST

The duties of the post will include: 

• Effectively analysing different kinds of data, from different data sets (face-to-face versus online) and how they are related to one another.
• Translating research/data insights into meaningful and impactful decision making for older veterans.
• Finding creative ways to engage and ensure that knowledge embedding with staff, and relationship building with existing Chelsea Pensioners is a priority.
• Using creative methods to encourage engagement and strong relationship building with older veterans.
• Contributing to digital skills training.
• Working with different stakeholder groups and balance their needs, whilst delivering key project milestones to time.
• To ensure high standards of GDPR and ethical awareness throughout the project.
• To contribute to academic papers, journals and conferences.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

• Essential: Master's Degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, Sociology, Occupational Therapy or similar discipline.
• Ideally, a PhD or similar, or equivalent research experience. 

Skills/Experience:

• Experience of analysing health and wellbeing data, both qualitative and quantitative
• Proficient with data analysis tools and methodologies, including participatory and community-based approaches.
• Experience developing tools, templates, or dashboards to support data use and organisational decision making.
• Experience of working with older people.
• Experience or interest in collaborating with marketing or product teams to identify, collect, and interpret data on user engagement to support impact storytelling or service promotion.

• Excellent written and spoken English, with experience authoring or co-authoring articles for publication in academic journals.

A hybrid working arrangement will be agreed, but the post requires working in the office regularly.
