The Faculty of Law seeks to appoint an Administrator for Alumni, Events and Teaching Support for the MSc in Taxation degree programme.
The MSc Taxation is a two-year, part-time, non-residential taught Master’s degree which attracts legal and accounting professionals and others, and which requires a high degree of professionalism in all aspects of administrative support. The postholder will join an enthusiastic team of academics and administrators and will have general responsibility for a range of administrative functions and will also provide additional administrative support to the Course Administrator for the MSc in Taxation. The work of the postholder will be directed by the MSc Course Directors and Deputy Directors, and the postholder will report to the Senior Administrator for the MLF and Postgraduate Taught Courses.
The MSc in Taxation degree is delivered by the Faculty, with teaching by faculty staff from both Law and the Centre for Business Taxation in the Saïd Business School. This postholder will provide an important interface between the two schools. The postholder will also be an important point of contact for current and former Taxation students.
The post is permanent and full time and the postholder will be based in the Faculty of Law, St Cross Building, St Cross Road, Oxford, OX1 3UL. The Law Faculty supports hybrid working, and currently requires staff to be on site at least 40% of their working week. In their first year, students attend two residential weeks in Oxford (in September and January) and one in their second year (in September). They will also attend courses at weekends or in other short blocks, mostly during term but sometimes outside term time. In order to assist with these events and teaching weekends, the post holder will also be required to work flexibly, being on site approximately ten evenings and/or weekend days per year.
The successful candidate should have a good level of general education; proven administrative experience, with the ability to produce accurate work to high standards; excellent written and oral communication skills, able to communicate confidently and effectively with administrative and academic staff within the University, with external representatives from firms, and with prospective and on-course students and alumni, including the use of a range of digital media to network and communicate; excellent organisational skills and efficient working methods, able to manage and prioritise a number of competing tasks and bring tasks to a successful conclusion in a timely manner; IT proficient and capable of using some software packages for a range of functions (though training will be given where necessary); a flexible approach to work, including the willingness to work over teaching weekends when required, with a supportive and co-operative attitude and the composure to handle unexpected situations. Education to degree level or holding a broadly equivalent academic or professional qualification; experience of using one or more of the software packages listed in the further particulars in a similar context; managing budgets and using financial software to raise purchase orders is desirable.
