An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow to join UEA. The post will be based in either the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences or the Faculty of Science, dependent upon the research interests of the successful candidate.
UEA is seeking a visionary Research Fellow and Future Leader to revolutionise the research and treatment of common diseases. This role is pivotal in transforming our understanding of individual responses to treatment and disease, to allow us to make important progress in areas where to date progress has been limited. Drawing on UEA’s strengths in microbiology and immunology, this position aims to challenge the orthodoxy of academia and current methodologies in addressing the underlying pathology of diseases such as dementia, Parkinson’s and autoimmune diseases.
This role is ideal for an individual ready to contribute to transformative change and make a significant impact on global health. Individuals whose research is either experimental or computational in nature, or both, are encouraged to apply.
Key duties of the role may include
You will have a PhD in biomedical science or a related field, postdoctoral research experience, and a strong publication record demonstrating national quality work. You should have sophisticated technological and methodological skills, experience in securing external funding, and the ability to develop original solutions and methodologies. Additionally, strong organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills, along with experience in supervising and mentoring, are essential, as is a commitment to teamwork, diversity, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
This full-time post is available from 1 August 2025 on a fixed term basis for three years. A research budget will be provided to enable the Fellow’s research; there will be opportunity to supervise student research projects.
UEA offers a variety of flexible working options and although this role is advertised on a full-time basis, we encourage applications from individuals who would prefer a flexible working pattern including annualised hours, compressed working hours, part time, job share, term-time only and/or hybrid working. Details of preferred hours should be stated in the personal statement and will be discussed further at interview.
We welcome applications from Early Career colleagues. Mentoring and professional development support is available to all our staff to help them thrive and progress in their careers.
Further information on our great benefits package, including 44 days annual leave inclusive of Bank Holidays and additional University Customary days (pro rata for part-time), can be found on our benefits page.
