About the role

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to use your leadership and operational expertise in the delivery of a new medical school? We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to be the Head of Operations at the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM).

Imperial College London and University of Cumbria have formed a partnership to open a new medical school - The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM). Our first students start a bespoke 4-year post graduate MBBS programme on the 26th August. Applying Imperial’s expertise in medical education and University of Cumbria’s experience in training nurses, midwives and other professions allied to medicine, we aim to train doctors who are embedded in their local community ready to contribute to services across the region and beyond.

This is an exceptional opportunity to lead the operational delivery of this unique Medical School.

What you would be doing

The PCSM Head of Operations is a senior leadership role within the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London, holding overall administrative responsibility for PCSM. The post holder will:

  • Lead the PCSM operational staff, supporting the PCSM Head of school to deliver the strategic priorities and translating these into operational excellence.
  • Manage and coordinate interfaces with external influences, such as the NHS partners across northwest England. The post holder will be required to ensure that this, and other external influences, do not impact adversely on student experience.
  • Provide day-to-day management of the PCSM annual financial plan and budget
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the medical student body to support the student experience.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience of senior managerial/ leadership responsibility, such as within medical education, other health related / postgraduate courses, or within health care environments. They will be able to demonstrate previous experience of building and maintaining successful relationships with internal stakeholders / colleagues, and of leading an inclusive team.

This is a full-time, open-ended role predominantly based at the University of Cumbria campus for a minimum of 60%.
