This new part-time (0.5 FTE) post is available immediately on a 2-year fixed-term basis. The post is subject to confirmation of funding and receipt of the contract.

The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant to support the work of Dr Chris Laing. This South West Water funded post has an expected start date this summer for two years. The successful applicant will be expected to conduct desk-based studies of the literature, carry out field work to collect plant samples from subtidal seagrass beds, process them in the laboratory and display the results of this work with maps in reports.

The post will support Dr Chris Laing and contribute to work with the Centre for Resilience in Environment, Water and Waste (CREWW), based in Exeter and will contribute to measuring and reporting on the impact of wastewater outflow on seagrass plant health in six catchments along the South Coasts of Devon and Cornwall.

About you
The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to critically evaluate scientific literature related to the impacts of marine pollution on seabed habitats, be a competent swimmer able to plan and conduct fieldwork around selected catchments along the South coast.
