The Sports Club Development Officer is responsible for assisting in the development of 55+ student-led Sporting Clubs at Queen's, as part of the Students' Union Clubs & Societies department. This post works closely with student Club committee members, SU and University colleagues, and the Queen's Sport department.

You will engage directly with students to offer day-to-day support, advice and guidance, and regular developmental training. The post also assists with budget, resource, and facility allocation, working to ensure that all Sports Clubs at Queen’s have the tools they need to operate and thrive.

You will help deliver flagship events and activities including Club intervarsities, taster sessions, Club development workshops, annual awards schemes, and the Freshers’ and Refreshers’ Fairs.

Internally, this post forms part of the Students’ Union team, working to represent students, advocate for their best interests, and work to support an inclusive, fun, and supportive experience for all Queen’s students.

This post also works very closely with the Queen’s Sport department, engaging with the Performance and Participation Sport staff teams to co-deliver sporting initiatives and Club support structures.

This is a student-facing post in a busy and visible team. The Students’ Union adopts an agile working approach, with an offering of up to 40% remote working, where possible and in accordance with the needs of the team.

About the person:

To be successful, you must have:

  • Relevant academic/vocational qualifications at ONC/OND, A Levels, NVQ Level 3 in relevant subject (orequivalent); OR Substantial relevant work experience in a similar environment working at the required level.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ recent relevant experience in a paid or voluntary capacity, in a range of environmentsincluding schools / clubs / community / third level settings.
  • Strong demonstrable knowledge of sporting club operation or development, including at higher education andsecondary education levels.
  • Experience of organising training / induction sessions.
  • Experience of working with students or young persons in a one-to-one capacity.
  • Previous recent relevant administration experience.
  • A broad knowledge of essential legislative issues such as health and safety and safeguarding.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing excellent customer service.

An ideal candidate would also have:

  • HND or University degree in academic field relevant to the duties of the post.
  • Experience of supporting student involvement in extra-curricular activity.
