Applications are invited for the permanent position of Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering from 1st September 2025 at the University of Galway. The university seeks to appoint a world-class individual with specific expertise in kinematics and dynamics of machines. The successful candidate will develop new teaching in these fields to prepare students for careers in rapidly growing industries, including robotics, autonomous vehicles, and renewable energy. He/she will build collaborative research that addresses critical problems faced by industry partners in Ireland, Europe and globally. Researchers from the School of Engineering play leading roles in the Ryan Institute, the Institute for Health Discovery and Innovation, the I-Form and the MaREI Research Ireland Centres, the SH2AMROCK Hydrogen Valley, and IEA Wind. He/she will apply for national and international funding awards, develop collaborations with academia and industry, and disseminate research through high-quality peer-reviewed journals and high-impact conferences. He/she will contribute to the strategic visions of the University of Galway and the College of Science and Engineering.

The successful candidate shall possess:

  • Primary degree and PhD qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in university teaching and the ability to deliver undergraduate and graduate level modules in kinematics, dynamics, control of machines, design.
  • An appropriate portfolio of high-quality peer-reviewed publications in the areas of kinematics, dynamics, and control of machines, including design, and their application in fields including robotics, autonomous vehicles, and renewable energy.
  • Commitment to working with colleagues within established research centres, and a willingness and ability to develop and lead new research.
  • Ability and willingness to conduct programme administration and management in a public service university environment.
  • Ability to take leadership roles in delivering new programmes, including those of a cross-disciplinary nature.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, and an ability and commitment to develop collaborative relationships with other academic staff in the pursuit of teaching and research objectives.
  • Commitment to working with the Engineering and closely related industry, particularly in terms of collaborative research.

Salary:

€63,624 to €101,498 p.a. (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)

(This appointment will be made on the Lecturer scale in line with current Government pay policy)
