About the Role:
The School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences offers several undergraduate and postgraduate Bioscience related degrees including BSc (Hons) Microbiology, BSc (Hons) Biology, BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science and BSc (Hons) Pharmacology and an expanding suite of postgraduate provision. The School offers a friendly and supportive learning environment with state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities.
We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Microbiology who will contribute to course delivery, management and development of the microbiology undergraduate teaching and related postgraduate programmes in the School. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team and make a contribution to research and knowledge transfer through scholarly activities.
About you:
The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator, ideally with some experience of microbiology teaching in higher education and a successful track record of scholarship. They will have a breadth of knowledge across several areas of microbiology (e.g. Clinical, Industrial, Environmental, Food and Water, Veterinary and Microbial Biotechnology, Microbiome Metagenomics). It would also be desirable to have experience of microbiology field work (i.e. not limited to clinical and laboratory microbiology) and experience of different styles of authentic assessments related to microbiology. They may also be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. A motivated and enthusiastic individual, the successful applicant will be an active networker, with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
Applicants will have an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in microbiology, biomedical science or in a bioscience with a microbiology component together with a a PhD in a bioscience discipline. For further details, please contact Dr Charlotte Lawson via email.
Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview. This position is based in Preston, though there may be requirement to work at other University of Central Lancashire campuses including Burnley and West Lakes as well as leading and contributing to field trips. Work patterns may mean that weekend work is sometimes required.
