This Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between Aston University and Integrated System Technologies Ltd (ISTL) aims to develop High-Voltage, Fault Managed Power Systems (HVFMPS) for domestic and commercial use. These systems offer lower installation and operational costs than conventional mains power and align with sustainability goals due to higher efficiency. The project aligns strategically with ISTL’s existing product lines, including low voltage SELV systems.

Candidate Profile:
Applicants should have an MSc in Power Electronics or an undergraduate degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with relevant industrial experience.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Design, build, and testing of high-frequency DC-DC converters (up to 600V)
  • Use of software tools like PSCAD, Spice, MATLAB/SIMULINK
  • Embedded control system design using DSPs, microcontrollers, and/or FPGAs

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with domestic wiring regulations
  • Experience with Gallium Nitride (GaN) MOSFETs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting technical and regulatory reviews
  • Designing a Managed Intelligent Digital Power Affordable Solution (MIDPAS)
  • Developing power converter electronics and control systems (hardware/software)
  • Prototyping and testing
  • Supporting commercialisation for cost-effective delivery

  • Leadership and project delivery skills
  • Project management experience is a plus

Team & Location:
You'll work with Dr Richard Nock and Dr Andrew Cross at Aston University, ISTL’s senior team, and an Innovate UK Adviser. Based primarily at ISTL in Lichfield, with access to Aston University’s facilities in Birmingham. Occasional travel for training and client meetings is required.

Due to limited public transport, a driving licence is recommended.
