Are you credible at computing and mathematical sciences? Birkbeck, University of London is seeking a Demonstrator to join the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences and teach part-time this coming Autumn term 2025. 

As Demonstrator you will teach on 1 or more modules - Analytical Foundations of Data Science, Advanced Cloud Computing, Analytics Tools for Data Science, Computer Networking, Data Analytics Using R, Data and Knowledge Management, Information Security, Fundamentals of Computing, Mathematics for Computing, Introduction to Programming, Further Machine Learning and Analytics, Information Security, Principles of Programming, Mathematics for Computing, Systems Analysis and Design, Data Modelling and Analysis, Big Data and Analytics, Data Science Techniques and Applications, Mobile Computing, Software and Programming.

You should engage in the scholarship necessary to ensure good practice in teaching and to apply appropriate levels of knowledge in the subject areas to be taught. 

Most post-holders taking these roles will be employed as part of their general academic development to obtain practical teaching experience and will undertake this work independently but in parallel with postgraduate studies.

In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, candidates must have: 

  • A degree or an equivalent relevant qualification in the appropriate subject.
  • Confident presentation skills and ability to clearly and effectively pass on specialist subject area knowledge.
  • A good level of IT and communication technology skills particularly in application to standard packages (eg Word, Excel, OneDrive, Outlook, Teams, Moodle, general internet usage). 
  • The ability to work both as part of a team and independently and have the ability to support teaching.
  • Awareness of the needs of part-time adult learners and ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students and inspire them to learn.

Remuneration:

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £23.96 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, and other examining duties in connection with the course. 

Contract:
