The role
The School of Civil, Aerospace & Design Engineering wants to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Structural Design Engineering. The candidate will influence our Civil & Design Engineering curricula with an emphasis on topics including structures, sustainable construction and materials, & the design of built environment. The appointee will also be expected to pursue a relevant research agenda and to seek external funding.
The post holder will be joining a vibrant leading research community which actively encourages and supports collaboration across groups and disciplines and is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. They will also have opportunities to apply for leadership roles to influence our strategy and future direction in terms of research and teaching.
The hosting academic team is progressive and inventive, committed to a modern, integrated approach to the teaching of civil and design engineering, sustainability and management. It promotes education through a multidisciplinary approach, integrated team teaching, and a wide range of learning and assessment methods.
What will you be doing?
The primary purpose of this position is to conduct research and deliver education in the field of structural design engineering, sustainable construction & materials, and the design of the built environment. You will contribute to the teaching of students across a range of programmes, with a particular responsibility for design-focus subjects. This will involve developing teaching materials, contributing to teaching management and development, and collaborating with other academic team members to teach design fundamentals to students across the School of Civil, Aerospace & Design Engineering. Additionally, you will supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects in these fields.
You will also conduct internationally leading research in structures, sustainable construction & the built environment. It is expected that your work will complement the high-calibre research undertaken at the University and have a societal impact, as reflected in Research Excellence Framework (REF) evaluations. Close collaboration with leading groups within the University's Faculty of Engineering such as Earthquake and Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Systems Design and Innovation will be essential to the role, with the objective of applying groundbreaking research to real-world challenges.
You should apply if
You hold a PhD in structural design or sustainable construction or similar and are passionate about world-leading design research and education. You should be a confident communicator and a team player with a vision that aligns with the priorities of our School. Chartered status with a relevant professional institution is a plus.
