NKVTS works for a better life for those affected by violence and trauma. The research center operates on an international level, developing key knowledge on the impact of violence and trauma, as well as societal preparedness and response, on the health, wellbeing, participation and social security of individuals and populations. Through our research efforts, we inform and report on best practices for policymakers and practitioners, and contribute to the academic field of violence and traumatic stress. Our goal is to prevent and mitigate the negative health and social consequences of violence and trauma.

The main position in psychotraumatology is affiliated with NKVTS, section for trauma, catastrophes and forced migration – adults and elderly. The position particularly entails responsibilities for building strong research groups to deliver high quality research, supervision, collaboration and dissemination ultimately aiding in mitigating the adverse impact of exposure to war, disasters, forced migration and other trauma. It is combined with a professor II/associate professor position (20 percent) at the Department of Adult Psychiatry, Division of Mental Health and Addiction, Institute of Clinical Medicine at the University of Oslo (UiO). The position requires the applicant to hold a medical degree (MD) and a PhD, with specialization in psychiatry, as well as broad clinical experience relevant to teaching medical students both in classroom settings and in clinical small-group. Responsibilities and requirements for the main position at NKVTS

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement projects.
  • Advance the center's research profile in psychotraumatology by securing research funding nationally and internationally.
  • Contribute to research collaboration nationally and internationally.
  • Disseminate findings to relevant policymakers and stakeholders, practitioners and the general public.

Qualifications

  • A medical degree (MD) and a relevant PhD, with clinical specialization in Psychiatry, preferably combined with clinical and research experience in trauma and trauma-related disorders.
  • Applicants are expected to demonstrate competence in research methodology, experience in study design, and a proven ability to develop competitive grant applications. A strong publication record and engagement in international collaboration and networks will also be considered an advantage.
  • Research and/or clinical experience on migrants/migration, and/or immigrant/refugee mental health is considered an advantage
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Norwegian and English.
  • Applicants who are not competent in Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish must acquire such competence within two years subsequent to their appointment and must be competent in English in the interim period.
  • Solid understanding of research methods/research approaches.
  • Proven experience in obtaining external research funding.
  • Personal suitability will be considered.
  • Leadership experience will be emphasized.
