In partnership with the ITT Course Lead Lead and Titan Partnership’s accredited ITT partner, Teach First, manage the day-to-day running of Titan’s ITT programme.
The lead mentor role is critical to trainee success on the SCITT, providing high-quality support for mentors
and ensuring that the Teach First SCITT meets the ITT Criteria and Quality Standards.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver the SCITT curriculum including Intensive Training and Practice, conference content and live seminars (including leading a subject/phase if required)
- Oversee trainee progress through the year including monitoring curriculum engagement and
timetable requirements
- Conduct observations of trainees, including joint observations with the mentor
- Identify interventions and escalations to support trainee progress as required
- Ensure that observation, reflection, deconstruction and feedback take place throughout the year inline with the curriculum
- Assess trainee progress including leading on Development Reviews and QTS sign off
- Quality assure Broader School Experiences
- Deliver training for mentors
- Conduct developmental interactions with mentors
- Oversee, supervise and quality assure the work of mentors, including attending some mentor-trainee interactions, and monitoring curriculum engagement
- Work collaboratively as part of the wider team of Titan school-based Lead Mentors and subject/phase experts
- Work collaboratively with the Teach First Quality and Training Lead (QTL)
- Undertake Lead Mentor training as required
- Provide pastoral support and signposting to trainees
- Attend Titan Partnership and other relevant meetings
- Maintain up-to-date safeguarding and safer recruitment training
- Carry out other duties as requested, within the ITT remit and within the wider Titan Partnership as commensurate with the post.
- Attend regular virtual information events and attend other marketing events as appropriate
Person Specification
Required:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Excellent classroom pedagogy and good knowledge of the Teachers’ Standards and Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Framework (ITTECF)
- Experience developing, mentoring, coaching trainee teachers on an ITT route for at least two years
- Experience developing the practice of other qualified teachers
- Phase or subject expertise including at least two years developing teachers within a phase or specialism and teaching knowledge of your own subject up to GCSE or in two primary key stages. Exemplary knowledge of the pedagogy underpinning you own subject or phase.
- Critical engagement with recent subject/phase-specific research.
- Keen to develop own skills and knowledge
Preferred:
- Teaching knowledge of your own subject up to A level (secondary specialists)
- Experience of using technology to coach and mentor others
- Knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices and experience of evaluating interventions in schools
