Research Associate in Process Analytical Chemistry (722452)

We seek to appoint a Research Associate with experience in situ measurements and chemometrics for process analysis. You will form part of an interdisciplinary team within an Innovate UK project developing and evaluating a novel in-line sensor to improve the sustainability of medicines manufacturing.

The Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry seeks to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate with experience in in situ measurements and chemometrics for process analysis. You will form part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers within an Innovate UK Sustainable Medicines Manufacturing Innovation: Collaborative R&D project. The overall aim of this project is to develop and trial a robust, low-cost and compact sensor (LiquiSensor), based on measurement of thermal effusivity, for in-line monitoring of compositional change in liquids to optimise production efficiency and reduce waste in medicines manufacturing. You will possess a PhD or equivalent in process analytical chemistry, analytical science, chemistry, chemical engineering, physics or related fields. You will have experience in evaluating measurement techniques and the development of multivariate calibration models for on-line process monitoring applications. You will work closely with the project lead, ProxiSense, and other collaborating partners in the development and evaluation of the sensor technology. The post is for 12 months.

*Whilst a Post-Doctoral Research Associate is ideally sought for this position; applications from candidates who are close to PhD completion or whose award is pending, are welcome. In such circumstances, the appointment will be made at Research Assistant level (RS06 salary scale £ 32,546 -£ 36,130) and duties will be adjusted to reflect the grade of the post. This will continue until the PhD award is confirmed, at which point the duties and grade will be revised accordingly*.
