Overall purpose

To work with teachers and content developers to improve the standards of teaching and learning around Digital Learning across the college. This will focus on delivering training, managing content development and managing a team of Learning Technologists to implement specific projects. The Assistant Head of Digital Learning will work with key academic stakeholders any others across the organisation to ensure high quality content and learning delivery.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Along with the Director of Digital Academic Strategy, develop and implement strategies for digital learning (in-person, blended and online programmes)
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of digital learning through the development of relevant KPIs and reporting dashboards
  • Ensure that digital learning platforms (VLEs) are user-friendly and accessible
  • Lead on the design and development of learning content with teachers and other stakeholders which is academically sound and supports the OfS B conditions
  • Lead on the implementation of the digital learning areas of the OfS Action Plan, APP and other projects as required
  • Support the development and implementation of policies and guidelines for digital learning programmes
  • Ensure the safety and privacy of student information in online learning environments
  • Work with other departments to promote and market online courses and programmes
  • Provide expertise in the areas of instructional design, appropriate use of technology, pedagogy and assessment to faculty teaching in online programmes
  • Deliver training and other professional development opportunities to new and existing staff around digital learning
  • Facilitate the development and review process associated with educational content creation quality assurance and usability testing
  • Stay up-to-date with technological advancements and innovations in Educational Technology that can enhance digital learning programmes and recommend new instructional technologies
  • Manage a remote team of Learning Technologists
  • Ensure that library/resources are effectively embedded into learning content
  • Undertake any other activities or projects as determined by the Director of Digital Academic Strategy, Provost and Deputy Provost.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Higher-level degree in education or related field.
  • Senior Fellowship of AdvanceHE (or equivalent professional recognition).
  • Commitment to the college’s ethos and values.
  • Proven academic leadership in HE settings.
  • Experience leading digital innovation and online learning projects.
  • Design, development, and management of online/digital learning programs.
  • Leading teams and collaborating across institutions.
  • Delivering training to academic staff.
  • Experience with VLEs (Virtual Learning Environments).
  • Familiarity with OfS B conditions.
  • Strong professional relationship management internally and externally.

Desirable:

  • Qualification in learning innovation or digital learning.
