Join a world-class department and help keep our spaces running smoothly.

The Department of Computer Science is seeking a proactive and hands-on Facilities Assistant to help support the smooth day-to-day running of our buildings and facilities. Working across multiple sites in central Oxford, you’ll be a vital part of the team that ensures staff, students, and visitors experience a safe, well-maintained, and welcoming environment.

From setting up lecture rooms and events, to handling small repairs and working with contractors, this role is as practical as it is people-focused. You'll be supporting operations in a dynamic, fast-paced academic setting where no two days are the same.

This is a visible and valued role for someone who takes pride in practical work, enjoys solving problems, and is committed to high standards of service and safety.

About You

You’ll be someone who enjoys getting stuck in, stays organised under pressure, and takes ownership of tasks from start to finish. You’ll be comfortable engaging with building users and contractors alike, and you’ll have a practical mindset with a good grasp of health and safety.

You’ll bring:

  • Practical experience in building maintenance or similar environments
  • Familiarity with Health & Safety and COSHH/manual handling guidelines
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to use your initiative
  • A proactive, customer-focused approach to your work
  • Basic IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, email)

It would be great if you also have:

  • A BTEC or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • Any formal Health & Safety training (e.g. manual handling, compressed gases awareness)
  •

This role is part-time (22.5 hours/week), which can be worked across a minimum of three days. Please note that it is an on-site role only.

Committed to equality and valuing diversity.

Application Process

You will be required to upload a supporting statement and an up-to-date CV as part of your online application.

Your supporting statement must clearly demonstrate how you meet each of the essential selection criteria listed in the job description. Applications that do not include a supporting statement or CV, or fail to address the criteria in sufficient detail, will not be considered.

While we recognise the value of AI tools in assisting with application preparation, submissions that are clearly AI-generated without personalisation or insight will be rejected. It's crucial that your application reflects your own experiences and understanding of the role.

The closing date for applications is midday on Tuesday, 1st July 2025.

Interviews are planned for July and will be face to face.
