About us

The UCL Department of Space and Climate Physics is a research and teaching department of UCL and is the UK's largest university space research group. The department participates in international space science projects by providing custom instrumentation, hardware and/or software products and also by exploiting and interpreting the scientific aspects of the data that these projects obtain. The department is therefore a centre of space science and engineering expertise. To support these projects, a wide range of skills in technology management have been developed in the department, and the Technology Management Group of the department is a focus for these skills.

The Technology Management Group is concerned with the development, management and exploitation of technology within an enterprise context, and carries out research, teaching and consultancy in relevant areas. By applying this knowledge, it also supports projects and activities in the Department of Space and Climate Physics, other UCL departments, associated institutions and partner companies. This programme of activity involves teaching in relevant programmes across the university, including undergraduate and postgraduate courses and industrial training programmes. Most of these services are delivered through UCL’s Centre for Systems Engineering, which is hosted by the department within the Technology Management Group. An important facet of this is the provision of modular MSc programmes in Technology Management, Systems Engineering Management and Management of Complex Projects. Open short courses and customised industrial training courses in Sy stems Engineering and Project Management are also offered to a range of customers in the UK and overseas.

The aim of Project Juno is to recognise and reward physics departments, schools, institutes and organisations that can demonstrate they have taken action to address gender equality in physics and to encourage better practice for all staff. Note that teaching is mostly delivered face to face in London (and occasionally elsewhere). Staff are able to work in a hybrid mode with the expectation that 2 days per week are spent in the London office.
