The College invites applications for a part-time Stipendiary Lectureship in Biochemistry starting in Michaelmas term 2025. This post is based in New College, Oxford. The position is tenable for a fixed period of 1 academic year from 1st September 2025 to 31st July 2026 in the first instance, with possible renewal for a further year. The person appointed will be expected to organise and conduct tutorials for Biochemistry undergraduate students at New College principally on topics related to eukaryotic cellular, molecular, and structural biology. They will also contribute to student pastoral care.
The Lecturer will be expected to prepare and deliver 3 weighted hours of tutorial teaching per week during full term (1st – 8th week), to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year undergraduates reading for the M.Biochem degree. Teaching will be broadly in the areas of eukaryotic cellular, molecular, and structural biology, with flexibility to match the Lecturer’s expertise.
The Lecturer will participate with Prof Uphoff in the organisation of teaching and pastoral supervision of students. They will coordinate with Prof Uphoff the setting and marking of College tests (‘Collections’) in 0th week and participate in the undergraduate admissions process in December.
The total stipend for this post will be £8,137-£8,371 subject to review, (Salary Stage 2 or 3 on the Stipendiary Lecturers’ Scale for a 3-hour stint), plus £375 Oxford Weighting Allowance.
During the course of the appointment, the lecturer will be entitled to lunch and dinner (except for Saturday evening and Sunday lunchtime) in the Senior Common Room, at the expense of the College. In addition, the lecturer will be entitled to use a teaching account of £1,425 and an entertainment account of £285.
